Amsoil High Tack Foam Filter Oil
AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil has long provided users of AMSOIL air filters with
a high level of air flow and superior particle removal. Now, five years of
research, testing and development have yielded a new and improved Foam
Filter Oil formulation. New AMSOIL High Tack Foam Filter Oil (Product
Code: AFO) is a special blend of synthetic polymers that allows maximum air
flow and increased particle removing efficiency and capacity. High Tack Foam
Filter Oil stays in place throughout service life, resists washout from carburetor
fogging and will not plug foam filter cells, while its new red color helps ensure
even oil coverage across the entire filter.
AMSOIL High Tack Foam Filter Oil was tested with AMSOIL 2-Stage Foam
Filter media under the SAE J726 test methodology, yielding an efficiency rating
of 99.5 percent. High particle removing efficiency is critical in preventing engine
wear, keeping equipment running at peak efficiency and improving fuel efficiency.
AMSOIL High Tack Foam Filter Oil is available in its traditional form and a new and convenient aerosol spray.
Because it offers users quick and convenient application, the new spray formulation is a boon for power sports
enthusiasts.
Applying High Tack Foam Filter Oil
For best performance, apply a generous amount of High Tack Foam Filter Oil and work it into the foam media.
Squeeze out excess oil, leaving a uniformly oiled filter.
A properly oiled filter will feel oily or tacky to the touch on both the outer and inner surfaces,
but should not be dripping oil.
When reinstalling the air filter, apply a thin film of AMSOIL Multi-Purpose Grease on the foam base to insure a leak
free seal between the filter and housing.

AMSOIL PowerSports 2-Stage Air Filters are uniquely designed to hold wear-causing dirt while allowing only clean air for
better performance, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and longer engine life. Also, AMSOIL PowerSports 2-
Stage Air Filters are washable and reusable for numerous hours of trouble-free service.
AMSOIL PowerSports 2-Stage Air Filters are especially designed for PowerSports such as ATV’s and Dirt Bikes. The filters
feature two distinct layers of oil-wetted polyurethane foam, which provides a network of interlocking cells that trap particles
primarily on the surface, yet allow a constant flow of clean intake air for outstanding engine protection and performance.
AMSOIL PowerSports 2-Stage Air Filters are constructed of polyurethane foam and the 2-stage foam’s thickness allows for
even more filtering area and capacity to trap dirt over a longer period of time.
POWERSPORTS FILTER CLEANING AND OILING PROCEDURES
The AMSOIL PowerSports 2 Stage Air Filter is constructed with the highest quality foam filter media available. This filter,
when used in combination with AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil (AFO), will maximize engine performance and provide the most
effective filtration available for your engine.
NOTE: OIL BEFORE USE! AMSOIL PowerSports 2 Stage Air Filters are packaged dry. Proper filter oiling before use is
necessary to prevent dirt from entering the air intake system. AMSOIL recommends using AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil (AFO).
AFO is properly designed with high quality tacking agents that stick to dirt. AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil (AFO) is available in 8
oz. containers and can be purchased through your AMSOIL Dealer.
Follow the instructions below to properly prepare your filter for use.
Your local conditions and intended use will determine how often your air filter should be inspected and cleaned. Frequent
cleaning and oiling is necessary for best performance and protection against engine wear.
Filter cleaning:
1) Carefully remove the air filter being cautious not to knock any dust or dirt into the carburetor opening. Clean any dirt from
the opening with a clean shop towel.
2) Clean filter in a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Do not use strong solvents, gasoline, or other fuels to clean the
filter.
3) After washing, thoroughly rinse the filter with clean water and allow it to air dry. Note: Do not use high-pressure shop air
or heat to dry the filter. After the filter is completely dry it can be re-oiled for further use.
Applying filter oil:
For best performance, use a generous amount of filter oil and work it into foam media. Squeeze out excess oil, leaving a
uniformly oiled filter.
A properly oiled filter will feel oily or tacky to the touch on both the outer and inner surfaces,
but should not be dripping filter oil.
When reinstalling the filter use a thin film of Multi-Purpose Grease on the foam base to insure a leak free seal between the
filter and the housing.

AMSOIL Two-Stage Air Filters
Installation and Servicing
The AMSOIL panel (flat) air filter is designed to be used for up to 25,000 miles of
service or one year under normal driving conditions. Under continuous dusty
driving conditions the air filter should be serviced more frequently.
Initial Panel (flat) Filter Installation:
1. Remove the existing air filter from the air filter housing/box. Carefully clean
inside the housing with a shop towel being careful not to wipe or knock
contaminants into the air inlet.
2. Remove the new AMSOIL air filter from its packaging.
3. AMSOIL panel (flat) filters have two basic production designs. However, both
flat filter design types must be installed with the "foam side" facing the incoming
flow of outside air, and the "wire cage side" facing the side leading to the engine.
If your flat AMSOIL filter has:
a. Rubber Molding Edges: Make sure you are installing the flat filter in the correct
direction, and then carefully place the filter in the housing box until the rubber
edge comes in complete contact with the housings sealing ridge/edge.
b. Foam Fit Edges: Note that this type filter is designed to be slightly larger than
the air filter housing box. Make sure you are installing the flat filter in the correct
direction, carefully work the air filter into the box to provide a "form-fitting" airtight
seal, and gently press the filter until it comes to rest on the housing's sealing
ridge/edge.
4. After carefully reinstalling the air filter housing cover, affix the AMSOIL air filter
label to the housing cover, filling in the installation date and vehicle mileage.
The AMSOIL Air Filter may be cleaned and re-oiled at regular intervals. When
properly serviced, it never quits filtering!
Service Instructions:
While some mechanics and users may choose to install a new air filter after
receiving the benefit of AMSOIL's extended service protection, you do have the
option of further extending the service life of your air filter, but only after proper
cleaning and re-oiling of the foam filter media. Should you choose this option:
1. Remove the air filter from the filter housing. Carefully clean inside the housing
with a shop towel being careful not to wipe or knock contaminants into the air inlet.
2. DO NOT remove the foam from the wire frame (they are attached). Instead,
wash the "entire" flat filter in detergent and water. Alternately, you can wash the
filter in a cleaning solution. However, gasoline and other fuels are not
recommended for safety reasons and due to their adverse affect on the foam
filter media. RINSE THE FILTER THOROUGHLY WITH CLEAN WATER AFTER
WASHING.
3. (Very important!) ALLOW FILTER TO DRY THOROUGHLY.
4. Re-oil foam filter media with AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil (other oil substitutes are
not recommended). Use enough oil to completely saturate the entire foam filter
media.
5. Work the AMSOIL Foam Filter Oil into the filter foam media with repeated
squeezing and "make sure" it is completely and thoroughly massaged into the
entire thickness/depth of the foam media. Blot excess oil from the filter media.
6. Reinstall the oiled air filter into the air filter housing according to Filter
Installation instruction 3 above.
7. Record the service date and vehicle mileage on the label.
Round/Oval/Rectangular/Cr Filters
Cylindrical Air Filters
All cylindrical variations of the AMSOIL air filters are designed to be used for up to
25,000 miles of service or one year under normal driving conditions. Under
continuous dusty driving conditions the air filter should be serviced more
frequently.
Initial Cylindrical Filter Installation:
1. Remove the dirty air filter from the air filter housing/box. Carefully clean inside
the housing with a shop towel being careful not to wipe or knock contaminants
into the engine's air inlet.
2. Remove the new AMSOIL air filter from its plastic packaging.
3. All cylindrical AMSOIL filters, regardless of their various shapes, are installed
the same way. Carefully place the filter in the housing box and work it in until it
comes in complete contact with the housing's sealing ridge/edge.
4. Air Deflector Installation: (see photo at left): The best place to install the
aluminum air deflector is at the air inlet to the filter housing. If your vehicle has a
permanently installed air deflector at the air inlet, install the aluminum air deflector
at the filter housing's PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) inlet. In either case:
a. Place the "narrow edge" of the aluminum deflector under the bottom of the
filter's foam surface. IMPORTANT! Install under the edge of the foam only, not
into or under the metal cage.
b. Properly installed, the "air deflector" maximizes airflow around the entire filter
and stops the incoming airflow from directly impacting the air filter in just one spot.
NOTE: In vehicles with permanently installed air deflectors at the air intake and
the PCV inlet (if applicable), discard the aluminum air deflector.
While some mechanics and users may choose to install a new air filter after
receiving the benefit of AMSOIL:s extended service protection, you do have the
option of further extending the air filter service life if the filter is in good condition.
Should you choose this option you must properly clean and re-oil the foam filter
media:
1 . Remove the air filter from the filter housing. Carefully clean inside the housing
with a shop towel being careful not to wipe or knock contaminants into the
engine's air inlet.
2. CAREFULLY remove the foam from the wire frame (do not stretch out the
foam). Wash the foam filter media in detergent and water. Alternately, you can
wash the filter in cleaning solution. However, gasoline and other fuels are not
recommended for safety reasons and due to their adverse affect on the foam
filter media. RINSE THE FILTER MEDIA THOROUGHLY WITH CLEAN WATER
AFTER WASHING.
3. (Very important!) ALLOW FOAM MEDIA TO DRY THOROUGHLY.
6. Carefully reinstall the oiled foam filter media onto the wire cage, making sure
you have a proper fit with "complete wire cage coverage."
7. Reinstall oiled air filter into the housing according to Filter Installation
instructions 3, 4 and 5 above and record the service date and vehicle mileage on the label.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL oil-wetted foam air filters keep oils and engines cleaner for longer periods with the most
effective air filtration available today. AMSOIL air filters provide superior performance in all three critical
areas of filtration: efficiency (dirt-stopping), capacity (dirt-holding) and resistance (air flow). AMSOIL air
filters are uniquely designed to hold wear-causing dirt while allowing only clean air into the engine for
better performance, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and longer engine life. Also, AMSOIL
air filters are washable and reusable for thousands of miles of trouble-free service. Tests prove AMSOIL
air filters have up to 350 percent greater life expectancy than competitive air filters.
The AMSOIL TS Air Filter, for passenger vehicles, features two layers of oil-wetted polyurethane
foam, which provides a network of interlocking cells that trap particles yet allow a constant flow of clean
intake air for outstanding engine protection and performance.
The AMSOIL POD Air Filter, for small engines, features an oil-wetted foam filter element and an
inner spring that shakes dirt off the filter and harmlessly away from the engine.
Provide Full-Depth Filtration
AMSOIL TS and POD Air Filters are "full-depth" filters that trap and hold much more dirt than do
conventional "surface-type" filters. The polyurethane foam used in AMSOIL Air Filters is much thicker
than the thin layer of paper used in conventional filters. The foam’s thickness allows for more filtering
area and more capacity to trap dirt over a longer period of time.
Improves Air Flow
AMSOIL air filters allow more air into the engine than conventional air filters do and better maintain their
air flow over the life of the filter. The intake surface of conventional paper filters quickly becomes
obstructed with dirt, which impedes air flow. AMSOIL air filters distribute dirt throughout the foam depth,
allowing unobstructed air intake to the engine.
Form Tight Seal
The flexible polyurethane foam of AMSOIL air filters provides a consistent, tight seal between filter and
housing. Unlike conventional filters, which often fail to seal properly due to their hard rubber seal, the
foam of AMSOIL air filters conforms to irregularities on the bottom and top of the housing, forming a tight
seal when the housing is secured. Intake air must go through the filter before reaching the carburetor.
APPLICATION
AMSOIL air filters are available for most car and small engine applications. The AMSOIL "Oil and Air
Filters Application Guide" (G-194) is a comprehensive reference guide covering most makes and models
of automobiles and light trucks. There is also an Online Filter Lookup Guide. If you cannot find an
AMSOIL air filter to fit your application, please call the AMSOIL Technical Services Department at
(715) 392-7101 for availability and price quotes on filters to fit your application.
The AMSOIL POD Air Filter is suited for applications such as motorcycles, rototillers, small garden
tractors, lawn mowers or farm implement equipment. The AMSOIL POD Air Filter is adjustable to fit
carburetor throats ranging from 1 to 1-7/8 inches. It also has a special adapter for Briggs & Stratton
carburetors. Other throat sizes are available.
SERVICE LIFE (see Air Filter Installation and Servicing Info in following article)
The service life of AMSOIL air filters can be extended indefinitely when the following procedures are
